The American Physician Scientists Association (APSA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources for aspiring physician-scientist trainees. Physician-scientists are important to the future of medical advancement and working to improve the way medicine is practiced in all different fields, and APSA is a great resource for students interested in academic medicine and applying to MD/DO, MD/PhD, or DO/PhD programs.
One of APSA’s goals is to provide opportunities for physician-scientist trainees to develop skills needed for future careers in academic medicine and industry, including trainee mentorship. To accomplish this goal and to provide insight to prospective graduate and professional school applicants, we are starting the eighth year of our Undergraduate Mentorship Program. The goal of this program is to connect APSA students (MD, DO, MD/PhD, and DO/PhD) with undergraduates who are interested in careers as physician-scientists in one-on-one mentor-mentee relationships.
The application is found here and is due October 15th.
Aside from our undergraduate mentorship program, undergraduate students can become associate members of APSA to have access and up to date information about all of these opportunities. We also can help students start local chapters if interested in developing more resources on a local level. Undergraduates can also find out more relevant information through the Undergraduate Resources webpage here!
Thank you for your time, consideration, and support for undergraduate education! Please reach out to us at askmentorship@physicianscientists.org with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you.
