Associate Positions at Close Concerns and Analyst Positions at dQ&A in San Francisco

My name is Ashwin Chetty, and I work for the healthcare information firm Close Concerns. Our organization specializes in diabetes, pre-diabetes, and obesity, and our mission is to improve outcomes by educating physicians, scientists, researchers, business leaders, educators, manufacturers, policymakers, and patients on the most important news and research in the field. We are currently hiring graduating seniors for the two-year Associate Program at Close Concerns, as well as Analyst Positions at our sister organization dQ&A, a patient-focused diabetes research company. We believe both of these positions would be of interest to many of the pre-med and biology students at the University of Florida.

From my perspective, not only as a current employee but also as a recent college graduate and aspiring medical school applicant, Close Concerns and dQ&A are great stepping-stones toward a career in science or healthcare.  Our associates also work closely with The diaTribe Foundation, a nonprofit focused on advocacy and education in our family of organizations founded by Kelly Close.  Our associate and analyst programs give new college graduates unparalleled exposure to the real world of healthcare and business, early responsibility, and opportunities for travel, both in the US and internationally.

By attending over 25 major medical and scientific conferences each year and interviewing leading medical advocates and clinical researchers, I have developed a well-rounded perspective on the broader healthcare system through the lens of diabetes and obesity, two of the greatest public health issues of our time. Recent alumni of our programs have gone on to graduate and medical school at Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, UCSF, the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, Yale, and multiple highly-renowned public and international universities, benefitting greatly from the experience and guidance that our family of organizations provides to aspiring healthcare leaders.

I have attached the job descriptions for our Associate Program at Close Concerns and the Analyst Positions at dQ&A. Might it be possible to attach these PDFs or the text of these job postings to an upcoming message to the University of Florida pre-med and biology community? We have already posted these positions to your school’s job boards and are asking for your help with an additional level of reach-out.

This year, we are looking to hire eight motivated people with all types of skills, backgrounds, interests, and experiences to work with us in our supportive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment, and we eagerly look forward to reading applications from the University of Florida.

Oral Inflammation, Halitosis and Chemosensory Disorders

At the University of Florida, College of Dentistry, we are investigating a potential association between oral inflammation, halitosis (also known as bad breath) and the senses of smell and taste. Although several factors can influence smell and taste perception, the focus here is to explore whether the presence of oral inflammatory conditions can impact how individuals smell and taste the world around them. With this purpose we are working on a research titled ‘Oral Inflammation, Halitosis and Chemosensory Disorders’ (IRB202100678). Your email information was obtained from the UF Central Human Resources who are facilitating our outreach, but that office is neither engaged in nor  sponsoring this research.

We would like to invite you to participate in this study by completing a questionnaire that takes about 10-20 minutes to be completed. We use a cookie containing a random string to track your responses. This allows you to close the window and resume later from where you last saved. However, no personal information is stored in this process.

There are no anticipated risks or compensation. There are no direct benefits to you. Deciding not to participate will in no way affect your affiliation with the University of Florida. Your participation is voluntary and will not affect your academic progress. You are free to withdraw your consent to participate and may discontinue your participation at any time without consequence.

Data are handled confidentially during the collection, processing and analysis phases. No one outside our research group will have access to the data. Personal data will not be collected. Publications from the project will not include information that could identify individuals. There is a minimal risk that security of any online data may be compromised, but our survey host (REDCap) uses strong encryption and other data security methods to protect your information.

If you have any questions about this research protocol, please contact me (352) 294-8285. Questions or concerns about your rights as a research participant rights may be directed to the IRB02 office, University of Florida, Box 112250, Gainesville, FL, 32611; (352) 392-0433. This letter is provided for your records.

By clicking on the hyperlink to the survey https://redcap.au.dk/surveys/?s=498RPAYEHD, you give us permission to include your data from the measures and assignments described above in the aggregate findings for final manuscripts or as a conference presentation.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Volunteer Opportunity for Pre-Health Students

The UF Mobile Outreach Clinic travels daily to different medically underserved communities in Alachua County. We provide education and free primary care services including work/school physicals and prescription refills. Often, our patients belong to marginalized and minority populations; MOC seeks a group of diverse volunteers so that we are reflective of our patient population and can provide culturally competent and sensitive care to each unique patient.

Volunteers call and follow up with patients after their clinic visit, addressing their social determinants of health and providing external resources. Our Care Coordinators are an extremely valued asset for the clinic. This is a great opportunity to learn and take tangible action against health disparities in Alachua County!

Applications are now open for Spring 2022 until October 22nd, 2021 at 11:59 pm. Link to applications: https://outreach.med.ufl.edu/

If interested in applying, join current MOC Care Coordinators at Chipotle on Archer Road on Monday October 11th, 2021 from 5-9pm for our interest event, where you will have the chance to talk 1-1 with current volunteers about the program & application tips.
