My name is Vivian Mesa, and I am the founder and director of Florida Engineering Society’s Student-led Academic Peer Study program (SLAPS). This is a community-driven resource, much like a weekly community discussion session or open office hours, that we provide to all students in STEM related classes for extra support - it is essentially free tutoring. Below is the list of classes we currently provide:
- Introduction to Chemistry
- Chemistry 1 and 2
- Organic Chemistry 1 and 2
- Calculus 1, 2, and 3
- Physics 1 and 2
- Statistics
- Biochemistry
- Engineering Mechanics: Statics
- and we are open to more!
As this program officially started up this semester, it hasn’t yet received much attention. I was wondering if it might be possible to ask for your help to spread awareness about the program by sending an announcement through your listserv/newsletter. The program provides alternative office hours for students as well as a fresh perspective on solving academic difficulties. As this is a mutually beneficial opportunity for all, we'd love it if you could help us share it far and wide!
Here is our LinkTree for anyone interested in attending. https://linktr.ee/SLAPS24?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=680a64e2-80a3-4cce-a874-fadcbb070d49
Further, positions as a mentor for the upcoming Fall semester have just recently opened up, and we could use help advertising this position to students. The program is run by fellow students that have already/are currently taking the class that they teach. Therefore, the prime audience for this position is those who are in the class currently (Spring 2024) or those who will be taking it next semester (Fall 2024). If it is possible to let your students know about this position, as well, it would be an amazing help.

Thank you for your time!
