American Society for Microbiology UF Chapter 2nd GBM

The American Society for Microbiology UF Chapter would like to invite you to our second GBM of the spring semester this Thursday (February 15th) at 6:30pm in the Microbiology and Cell Science building's seminar room!
Our guest speaker is Dr. Andrew MacIntosh from the UF Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition! He will be discussing the process of fermentation, the technologies involved, and the career opportunities in the field. You can find out about his current research interests here:
http://fshn.ifas.ufl.edu/directory/faculty/macintosh/.
To connect with the theme of fermentation, ASM will be holding a mini workshop on how to make some common (and uncommon) fermented foods and drinks in your own home! We will be making yogurt, kombucha, apple cider, and honey mead (an alcoholic drink made by fermenting with honey!). For a small donation (a minimum of $2), you will be able to take home mason jars with some of your own fermented foods! Regardless of if you want to take it home or not, we will have informational pamphlets with instructions on how to make your own!
Also as always, we will have pizza and drinks available and will also be selling t-shirts and GIANT MICROBE KEYCHAINS! If you haven't had a chance to stock by the stock room, this meeting will be a great chance to get one!

We hope to see you there!

Sierra Blashock

ASM Secretary
