J.O.Y. Service Organization

J.O.Y. is currently recruiting motivated volunteers for the Fall 2019 semester! J.O.Y. Just Older Youth Student Organization is a patient-oriented service organization at the University of Florida meant to facilitate meaningful volunteering experiences with the underserved geriatric patient population. Older patients in the hospital and assisted living homes suffer from greater rates of depression, and this can be detrimental to health (NCBI, 2009). Through J.O.Y. we hoped to change this trend in Gainesville and help fellow undergraduates better understand patient care. J.O.Y. is of both a student community and new type of volunteering experience. It is a club that brings together interested members of the future healthcare field to collaborate and serve underrepresented populations in the Gainesville community. We currently volunteer in the assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing residences at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida, which we go to every week. We have most definitely brought J.O.Y. to the residents as they love hanging out with us in the lounge. We talk to them, play board games with them, BINGO, balloon volleyball, and much more! Our volunteer application is currently open until January 18th at 11:59 PM. We welcome all majors and career paths and encourage everyone to apply!
