Service Opportunity for CLAS Biology Students

Dear mentor, educator, and friend:

 

I hope this message finds you well and that you’ve had a wonderful summer! Aces in Motion (AIM) is a nonprofit after-school and outreach program working in Gainesville’s underserved communities. We are focused on character development, academic achievement, and healthy lifestyles. We are seeking volunteers to serve as mentors, tutors, and most importantly role models for our middle and high school students. Due to volunteer efforts last year, 80%, of AIM students improved their reading grades by 0.5 GPA or more and an overwhelming majority of students improved or maintained their overall GPA.

When can I get started?

 

AIM will resume normal hours and days of operations in the Florida Gym starting August 20^th. Our students will be on UF’s campus Monday-Thursday, and we need any additional volunteer assistance possible from 4:00pm-6:15pm on those days. If you can or desire to only attend one hour, we are in particular need of tutors during the first hour of the program. 

 

What does programming look like?

 

Each day is split into two hours; the first hour is dedicated to academic tutoring, and the second hour is for sport sampling and developmental activities. There are multiple opportunities to also interact and collaborate with neighboring UF clubs, athletic teams, and local organizations, which are cultivating engaging learning and physical fitness activities for the students.

Your participation is pivotal in not only facilitating our daily programing, but every single volunteer is also responsible for the development and progression of the AIM family.
