TeleShadowing Program for Pre-Health Students

We are TeleShadowing, a free clinical e-shadowing platform open to all pre-health students from high school and beyond. As clinical shadowing opportunities have become limited in virtue of the ongoing pandemic, we are firm in our mission to extend shadowing opportunities to students across the globe. Our first TeleShadowing session will take place on 2/19/21.

As pre-health offices are pivotal to aiding students in their medical trajectories, TeleShadowing would greatly appreciate the opportunity to be advocated to your university’s students through your email lists and/or social media platforms (the link to join is on our website: https://www.teleshadowing.com/join). As TeleShadowing grows, we will have the opportunity to provide accessible and inclusive virtual clinical experiences to students in the field of pre-health.

Clinical shadowing experiences are crucial to applications and the overarching decision to pursue a career in the medical field. TeleShadowing intends to encourage and inspire students to explore the multifaceted world of medicine through our two-hour weekly Zoom sessions, in which they will have the opportunity to interact with health professionals as they walk them through real-life case studies and their path to medicine. Through our program, students will also be offered immediate certification of their hours for applications after having taken a quiz on the content prepared.

TeleShadowing is determined to offer exceptional clinical shadowing experiences weekly that will leave lasting impressions on students with points to reflect upon during their journey to medicine. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to work together!

Please visit us at our website at http://teleshadowing.com and if you know of any student campus pre-health ambassadors who would be interested in pursuing a leadership opportunity, please refer them to email us.

If you have any questions or would be interested in partnering and/or spreading word of our program to your students, please reach out to TeleShadowing at this email or by contacting us through one of our social media outlets linked below.

Thank you very much for your kind consideration and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Pitt Pre-Health Summit 2021!

Good afternoon! My name is Emily and I am reaching out to you today on behalf of the University of Pittsburgh Coalition of Pre Health Students. CPHS seeks to unite the Pre-Health Community at Pitt, and serve as a collective voice to further the combined aspirations, efforts, and objectives of all pre-health organizations. This inspired us to organize a Pre-Health Summit event to bring together all of the pre-health students on campus to participate in a conference-style event that emphasizes interprofessionalism and collaboration.

CPHS would thus like to extend an invitation to all interested students at University of Florida to the Fifth Annual 2021 Pre-Health Summit, which will take place virtually on Saturday, March 6th. Because our event will take place virtually this year, we have extended invitations to schools across the country. Given the reputation that University of Florida has for producing motivated future healthcare providers, we believe that the Pre-Health Summit is an amazing opportunity for networking, conferencing, and learning more about the interconnected pre-health community. We ask that you please consider passing the details of this event onto your students, given that many of them are probably planning on getting involved in the Pre-Health field in the future.

This year’s Summit features Keynote Speaker Dr. Chris Murawski, a Pittsburgh native involved in orthopedic and rehabilitation research, who was also selected for Forbes 30 under 30 in Healthcare in 2016. He is a 3rd-year resident at UPMC, thus he will be able to discuss what it is like working in a hospital during a pandemic.

Along with our speaker, Summit will feature a networking fair of 30+ graduate programs from schools across the country. Each student will also be able to select two breakout sessions to attend, featuring interview tips with Tom McKenzie, a Rehabilitation Science Simulation, and more!

As stated above, due to these unprecedented times, we will be holding our Summit virtually this year. Because of this we have waived the cost of tickets. Therefore, admission is free to any and all students!

Registration is required through EventBrite. The link is included below.

If you or your students have any questions regarding the event, please feel free to contact our Summit Director Kaitlin DiGiovine at kmd180@pitt.edu. We hope that your students will be able to join us in March!

Sewathons and Panties for Chad

PANTIES FOR CHAD!

We are working with Days for Girls International to support women and girls in refugee camps in Chad, located in central Africa.
We are well-stocked in all the sewing components but UNDERWEAR is what could keep us from reaching our goal of contributing at least 1000 Days for Girls Hygiene kits to the Chad refugee project.
Please donate as many panties as you can and ask your friends, family, colleagues, and group members to help!
We would love to have your donation by February 27, when we will next be doing kit assembly.  (We will do kit assembly again on March 27, but if possible, get the panties to us this month.)

We need at least
TWO THOUSAND PAIRS OF PANTIES!

You can easily order cotton underwear (see guidelines on flyer above) via our Amazon wishlist if you don't have time to go out to shop:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3Y34F8HOZK3P?&sort=default&fbclid=IwAR1fIcGODp-uCbzrNBrA0EoM8GWifrAVAvqACIeGRwIg71j4CBmWFdealCg

If you need a physical address to ship to, use Days for Girls c/o Michelle Belanger, 6022 NW 26 Terrace, Gainesville, FL  32653.  We don't use the sewing center address for packages as we are not always there.

SEWATHONS!

We are happy to announce that the renovations of the Fellowship Hall have been completed, which means that we will have enough space for a socially distanced sewathon.  To keep everyone safe, we will allow two shifts of up to 16 people at a time.
YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR A TIME SLOT in advance.  Here is the link:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1i542hoM7Vlk4VNwk9NIt_lxKh93Qojw50JMUfZtMwtQ/edit#gid=1279560262

You will note that the Saturday 2/27 and Saturday 3/27 shifts are 10-12 and 12:30-2:30.  If you are bringing a group, we need each individual to put their name, phone, and email address on the google sheet.

Also note that we are open on Mondays 4:00-6:30 pm by appointment during February and March only.

I am so sorry that I don't have time to write a full newsletter but wanted to get this information out immediately as it is time-sensitive.  We have a lot to share.  Hopefully in the next week or two.
Radha

We are still open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 1-5 thanks to Gopi Flick.

ANNOUNCING THE 2021 SCHEDULE: https://ghic.uniteforsight.org/schedule

Join this unique virtual conference where everyone is inspired to dive deep, have meaningful conversations, and embrace our collective extraordinary potential for growth and impact.

The Global Health & Innovation Conference is an annual event that dives deep into bold ideas, transformative innovation, and responsible global engagement. We bring together those who are creative, curious, talented, and passionate. We are innovators, thinkers, collaborators, and doers. We think differently, we have deep conversations, and we are collectively transforming organizations and inspiring communities.

This year’s event includes eight phenomenal hour-long keynote conversations, as well as dozens of plenary panel conversations with 4-6 thought leaders in each. Each session is an in-depth conversation, with no lectures, memorized talks, or PowerPoints. The sessions are not siloed based on discrete topics, but instead the conference is designed as a unique forum and exchange of ideas across disciplines.

April 2021 marks Unite for Sight’s 18th annual Global Health & Innovation Conference, and our 2nd annual virtual convening. Our new virtual format for 2021 convenes a wide variety of exceptional participants from an even wider geographic audience. Join our meeting of minds.

Eta Sigma Gamma and the UF Student Health Care Center host an annual Sex in the Swamp event each spring term to educate students on safe spring break activities and tips. This year, the theme is MASK-erade (MASK UP & WRAP UP)!  Sex in the Swamp 2021 is scheduled for Thursday, February 18, from 7PM-9PM.  Due to the pandemic, this year’s Sex in the Swamp will be the FIRST EVER virtual eventStudents can attend from anywhere by visiting https://ufetasigmagamma.wixsite.com/sits2021. MARK YOUR CALENDARS! You and your friends will not want to miss this event!

In addition to the exciting main event, WE INVITE YOU to participate in the Condom Design Challenge. The Condom Design Challenge is inspired by the ONE Condom® Project Condom Challenge. This challenge sparks the creativity of individuals as they create garments and accessories made out of condoms.  This year, UF students are invited to participate in the Condom Design Challenge by creating a positive health promotion image that is focused on condoms.

UF students may work individually or in a group with one other person (pairs) to create an image file for the Condom Design Challenge.  The image file should be no larger than 4” x 4”, and no smaller than 3” x 3” (think sticker size).  The image should generate a positive message about condoms, as well as reflect a positive sexual health promotion message.  Each image must have a proper title. Teams (1 or 2 UF students) must register in advance, and no later than Friday, February 12 at https://ufl.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bIt2TPVmdOpDspM.

After registering for the event, teams will complete their condom design.  The condom design must be submitted by 11:59pm (ET) on Tuesday, February 16.  Submissions must be emailed to ufetasigmagamma@gmail.com. The image final must be converted to a PNG and attached as a file to the email.

The Condom Design Challenge will take place during the 2021 SEX in the SWAMP virtual event on Thursday, February 18.  The event begins at 7pm (ET), and the condom designs will be featured throughout the event.  Participants will begin voting (electronically) at approximately 7:30pm.  Voting will last 15 minutes. The winning team will be announced around 8:15pm and each member of the winning design group will receive a set of Apple AirPods!

If you have any questions or if you would like more information, please contact me at hmoses@hhp.ufl.edu!  We look forward to receiving your team’s design challenge registration entry by February 12th! Act fast, as this challenge is limited to the first 8 teams that register. We hope to ‘see’ you at Sex in the Swamp ‘MASK-erade’ on February 18!
