Are you a pre-health student (especially one in a gap year)
seeking meaningful employment experience in the medical field? If so, look no
further than the UF Health Department of Medicine Scribe Program!
Started in July 2016, our program is distinct from the
Emergency Department Scribe Program, but we offer similar experience working
one-on-one with physicians to improve overall patient care. Scribes are
responsible for handling documentation in an electronic medical record during
patient encounters in clinic. This includes:
- Accompanying physicians to each patient they see throughout a clinic shift
- Recording pertinent medical histories, physical exam findings, diagnostic results, assessments and plans into the medical record
- Aiding physicians in organization and presentation of medical information within each patient's medical record
Department of Medicine Scribes work Monday through Friday
during regular business hours at the UF Health Medical Plaza, Tower Hill and
Springhill facilities, as well as at the main Shands hospital. Currently, our
scribes staff cardiology, endocrinology, hepatology and gastroenterology
specialty clinics, as well as general internal medicine clinics, and our
program is and will continue to grow into other specialties in the future. This
job has been a great experience for all of us that have been part of the program,
and it could be for you too!
We are looking for applicants, in both full and part time
capacities, that can give an 18-month commitment to the program, starting in
Fall 2018. Special consideration for a 1-year commitment may be given to those
in a gap year and currently applying to Medical or Physician Assistant School
who could be accepted and may not be able to complete the two-year requirement.
In the past, applicants to this scribe program have been pre-medical, pre-PA,
pre-nursing, and other pre-health students of all different ages and levels of
education. Most of our applicants have already graduated with a bachelor’s
degree and are in a gap year before graduate school, but this is by no means a
prerequisite for applying. We accept both current students and graduates alike
to work in our program, but if you are still a student, you must have a
flexible class schedule and be willing to work two to four shifts per week.
Shifts worked by our scribes are during daytime hours from Monday to Friday, as
mentioned above.
Our application will be open from now until 9/30/2018 on our
website at http://medicine.ufl.edu/scribe-program/.
After the application closing date, we will review applications and those
chosen to interview will be notified of interview time and location. Those not
chosen to interview will receive notification as such.
If you have any questions about our program, this hiring
cycle or anything else that we can answer, please contact us at scribes@medicine.ufl.edu. Good luck,
and we look forward to reviewing your application!
