Lab Positions Available - Precision Ketogenic Therapy

An opportunity for undergraduate students has opened up in our lab starting this summer. We are looking for students to start as soon as possible.

Task 1: Facilitate patient care by entering and auditing patient data of children receiving Precision Ketogenic Therapy for epilepsy

This is an opportunity for a student to participate in the custody of patient data that is used for patient care. Our lab provides Precision Ketogenic Therapy, a nutritional therapy, to people with intractable epilepsy (these patients do not respond to medications). Patient data is collected every 3 to 6 months at clinic visits and consists of daily data as well as data obtained at clinic. Additionally, recipes for patients on Precision Ketogenic Therapy need to be created or updated as the patient’s diet prescription changes. The overall goal of this task is to enter and audit clinic data and create and update patient recipes so that data can be used to facilitate patient care. Working knowledge of Microsoft office, particularly excel and word, is needed. There is an opportunity to start a research project as skills and understanding of our research program are developed.

The Department of Community Health and Family Medicine

The Department of Community Health and Family Medicine is currently looking for student volunteers to assist in data collection for the upcoming clinical research project called COMPARE. The goal of the COMPARE project is to examine patient and resident perspective in relation to hospital readmission so that this information can be used to reduce readmission rates in the future. The student volunteers would have the opportunity to receive patient interaction by assisting in the consenting and interviewing process of patients on a weekly basis. Please email me at tpiawah@ufl.edu with your name, resume and your availability for the summer (ex: M 3-5pm, WF 12-2pm). Tune in to Animal Airwaves Live this Saturday 1:00pm to hear Dr. Pam Ginn & Alex Avelino!

This coming Saturday, April 2nd at 1:00 pm, Dr. Pam Ginn and Alex Avelino will present the topic “Veterinary Medical School Admissions” on the Animal Airwaves Live radio program on WUFT-FM. The episode was prerecorded this week so there will not be a live call in section during the show.

Many steps are involved in veterinary medical school admissions these days, from curriculum requirements to hands-on experience and a demonstrated understanding of what the veterinary medical profession is all about.  On this show, Dr. Pam Ginn, director of admissions for the UF College of Veterinary Medicine, and pre-veterinary advisor Alexandra Avelino will discuss what today’s veterinary school hopefuls need to know before they apply and how to maximize the chances for admission.
