Saturday Sewing Event - Help us make Baby Quilts for Charity from Flannel Scraps!

Free Event for Sewists  Saturday Dec 4, 2021 2-6 pm Anyone that has some experience on a sewing machine can come to Days for Girls this Saturday between 2:00 & 6:00 pm.  We are going to be teaching everyone to make 10" paper pieced string quilt blocks out of our flannel scraps.    You probably already know that we use our itty bitty cotton scraps to make dog beds.  Now we are going to work on making baby blankets for charity out of the long strips of flannel leftover from rotary cutting.  This is a very easy and forgiving pattern so it is suitable for beginners.    Bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours.  We will have tables spaced out by electric outlets  in the Fellowship Hall across from our Days for Girls rooms.  We have extension cords.  Stay for an hour or two or three or four!  It only takes 10 minutes to learn how to do this but hopefully you will stay for some time and help us reach the goal of making 96 blocks (6 baby quilts) in one afternoon.    This bag of flannel scraps is NOT coming back home with me!  Let's turn them into baby quilts for charity! If you have any cotton flannel scraps to add to the project, bring them! This is a sample of a string style quilt block made from flannel.  It is actually stitched onto a 10" square of newspaper to keep from distorting.   The paper is removed after sewing the blocks together. Here is an example of what can be done when you put blocks together.  This is a sample of 4 six inch blocks stitched together.   The bright colorful prints and random design spark joy!
