Dear students, please see below.
Would
you like to go to Cardiff (Wales), take courses that will count towards your
degree/UF GPA from a world-class University AND work in
a Cardiff research lab (all for UF credit)? Below is a new, exciting
opportunity for you to study at Cardiff University as a CLAS exchange student
and work in a research laboratory. Successful applicants will pay UF tuition
while at Cardiff University. All scholarships (i.e. bright futures),
fellowships, and financial aid can be used (including FL prepaid). Housing is
guaranteed (single rooms) and is a bit cheaper that what you would pay for
on-campus housing at UF. Additional information about Cardiff University can be
found here: https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/about.
The
details:
- Between 3 and 15 UF research credits/semester can be
awarded for working in a laboratory at Cardiff.
- At https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/study/international/study-abroad-in-cardiff/modules, a list
of biology course that can be combined with research credit are
included. Instructions:
Under ‘choose a subject’ select Biosciences, and then click ‘filter
modules’, this should bring up links to all of the Cardiff available
courses (called “modules”). They are listed in alphabetical order, so
please note the ‘level’ column which shows whether each module is L4 (Year
1), L5 (Year 2), or L6 (Year 3). Courses you are interested in require
approval from your advisor.
- You can take other, science or non-science courses, in
combination with the above courses. Please see attached sample of courses
that have been pre-approved. Note that these are only a SAMPLE of
potential courses. Other courses listed in the Cardiff catalog can be
taken for credit with approval of your advisor.
- You must take a total of 60 credits per semester. Two
semester exchanges are highly encouraged.
- If you are interested in the Cardiff exchange please
apply through this link: https://www.advising.ufl.edu/beyond120/global-engagement/cardiff-university/ If you are also interested in taking research
credit please see additional instructions in the attached “Applying for a
Research Project” (note that you can go on the exchange without
participating in the laboratory research component).
- Research credits can count towards UF graduation with
honors, senior thesis, etc.
This
program is part of the CLAS Beyond 120 exchange program: https://www.advising.ufl.edu/beyond120/clas-exchange-programs/ If you have
questions, please contact Brian Harfe, Ph.D. (bharfe@ufl.edu).
