The
application process for applying to the University of Michigan Molecular
and Integrative Physiology PhD Graduate Program is
entering its final month. Our PhD Graduate Program is seeking talented
trainees to join our program in pursuit of their PhD degree in biomedical
sciences.
Training
in State-of-the art Research. Physiology is
a highly integrative science used to understand how genes, molecules, cells,
and organs function together in health and how their dysfunction causes
disease. Researchers in our department utilize
a broad range of model systems, from worms to flies to mammals to humans, to
address the latest questions in areas including (but not limited to): aging,
cancer, cardiovascular disease, metabolism and diabetes, neuroscience,
reproduction, gastrointestinal disorders, skeletal muscle, and systems biology.
Wielding experimental tools ranging from innovative molecular techniques to
computational modeling, students in our PhD program lead research projects
under the guidance of faculty who are
deeply committed to student training and experts in their fields.
Training
for Your Career. The Physiology Graduate Program is focused on
your career development and
preparing for the career that you wish to pursue with your PhD degree.
Students are given time to explore career opportunities through training grants and certificate programs,
interviews with invited guests and alumni, workshops and
short-term internships.
In addition, we emphasize development of career skills in writing,
communication, and teamwork that are highly sought after by future employers.
Training
to Be Leaders. The Physiology Graduate Program prepares you to be a
leader both in research and in life. Our Graduate Education Fund provides
travel funds for our students to present their work at national and
international meetings. Our students are encouraged to take active
leadership roles in the department and throughout the medical school and awards students who
participate. Our graduate students have founded and run a STEM outreach program focused
on nearby low performing schools without a science curriculum. Our
students also serve as leaders on student groups and committees focused
on diversity and inclusion, women in STEM, graduate school policy, and global
initiatives.
Prospective
students should apply to the University of Michigan
Medical School Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS),
which is the combined admissions program for all 14 PhD Programs in the medical
school. Be sure to select Molecular and Integrative Physiology, the #1
NIH funded Physiology program in the country, as your #1 choice
program. Deadline is December 1, 2018.
