On behalf of the Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (SAMOPS)
organization, I would like to reach out and discuss the possibility of connecting with pre-med students who are
considering joining the military via Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP) or Health Services
Collegiate Program (HSCP).
SAMOPS is an organization to serve and represent osteopathic physicians in the uniformed services (Air
Force, Army, and Navy). Student members are current DO medical students who have gone through the
process of applying and being selected to receive either HPSP or HSCP. HPSP offers two-, three- and
four-year military scholarships that can help cover civilian medical school tuition, pay for fees, and provide a
monthly living stipend. More information can be found here.
As you are aware, the path to becoming a military physician is long and difficult. The purpose of the SAMOPS
Pre-Med Mentorship Program is to give undergraduate students an opportunity to ask current military medical
students first-hand questions such as the medical school application process, MCAT, HPSP application
process, officer school, and more. The program is designed to “match” a SAMOPS student with an
undergraduate student. The match process will take place in DEC and MAR. Once matched with a mentor, our
hope is that students can develop a meaningful, professional relationship. Through this experience, students
can gain insight into the profession and seek advice, which may help in decision-making processes.

with the contact information of your matched AMOPS Physician.
