¡UF in Merida - Epidemiology & Spanish!
Help
meet your language requirement (even if you have no Spanish language
background) in an amazing location while learning all about infectious
diseases, how to track outbreaks, and more!
Program highlights:
-- 6 weeks in the Yucatan, a tropical, very safe region in Mexico that is rich with Mayan, Mexican, and Spanish colonial heritage
-- 6 weeks in the Yucatan, a tropical, very safe region in Mexico that is rich with Mayan, Mexican, and Spanish colonial heritage
--
2 courses, each 3 credits: Understanding Infectious Diseases (BSC 4956, an
introductory course taught by Dr. Hladish), and a Spanish language course
tailored to your level
--
Spanish courses will be small (likely 5-10 students), taught by native Spanish
speakers at the local university, at four different skill levels (beginner
through advanced)
--
There will be many excursions! While my course will focus on infectious diseases,
this is an immersive, holistic program. There is a reason why different
diseases are a problem in different places: human culture and the natural
environment matter. We will explore both--for their own sake, and to develop a
richer understanding of what drives the disease dynamics of this amazing
region.
--
Perhaps for 2018 only, program fees will be partially covered for many UF
Bright Futures scholars.
