By
means of introduction, I am the associate dean of the St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Our graduate
school is welcoming its first class into the doctoral program in Biomedical
Sciences beginning in the 2017 – 2018 academic year. At the same
time, we are beginning to actively recruit our second cohort for the doctoral
program.
Our
program curriculum has a substantial translational component which makes us
unique from other doctorate programs. In addition to completing all
coursework in Year 1, we will be pairing each student with a clinician so that
they are able follow St. Jude patients throughout their first year and
experience firsthand how treatment decisions are made. Importantly, the
curriculum is built so that students are able to graduate within five years.
The
funding we provide for graduate students is highly competitive and
comprehensive. We offer a generous 12-month stipend, full scholarship to
cover tuition and fees, health insurance, a laptop computer, and funds for
professional development travel and laboratory supplies.
We
are recruiting undergraduate students who have or are currently conducting
bench research and are interested in graduate studies in the biomedical
sciences (see a list of our academic departments below). Additionally, I
would also like to talk about our undergraduate research symposium and a summer
internship opportunity both of which are hosted by St. Jude.
