UF Habitat for Humanity; Welcome!

Hello Gator Habitaters!

To those of you who are new- welcome and thank you for your interest in UF Habitat for Humanity, and to those of you returning, welcome back!

UF Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in Gainesville and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience action. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Through volunteer labor, we are able to help provide housing in the local community and these Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans.

If you are interested in getting involved with UF Habitat for Humanity during the remaining weeks of Summer B, please follow us on Facebook. This is where we will be posting our build sign ups and any updates we have for you. Feel free to send us a message with any questions and we will get back to you as soon as possible. For your convenience here is where you can sign up for this/next weekend's build.

In the Fall and Spring semesters we will hold bi-weekly meetings where we will have speakers and/or activities, and build sign ups. There will be other volunteer opportunities in addition to our builds, as well as leadership opportunities within the organization. More information about these meetings will be sent closer to the beginning of Fall.

Also, there is an exciting new opportunity to fundraise for Habitat and all we need is minute of your time each day. From July 11 to July 31, you can vote daily for Habitat for Humanity in the "Band Together" campaign from Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company and push our organization to the top of the leaderboard to win the $1 million top donation. Your vote will have a tremendous impact upon raising funds to expand our mission. Vote here!

We hope to see you in the future!

Best,

Tristen Townsend

What I Know Now That I Wish I Had Known Then
As the expression goes, hindsight is 20/20. But what if you could have the benefit of foresight as you make financial decisions about how to pay for a health sciences education and manage your student loans? A group of high school and college students interested in dentistry were asked if they had thought about how dental school and the financial choices they are making now might affect their lives for years to come. The advice given afterwards to all students considering their financial choices: preserve your options. This simply means when borrowing for school, don’t force your hand into a repayment option that you will later regret.
