DART Summer Research Fellowship - Deadline Extended to 2/15!

We are accepting applications for the 2022 NIH-sponsored Diversity in Addiction Research Training (DART) Summer Research Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). We would greatly appreciate if you could share the information below with any of your students who may be interested in applying.

This a 10-week, full-time research training opportunity open to medical, graduate, and undergraduate students. DART scholars are matched with a research faculty mentor who will guide them on a research project. Students will present at the Annual DART Summer Research Day and awarded a stipend.

DART Trainees benefit from:

-         Mentorship from experts in addiction research

-         Experience in various types of research, including clinical trials, basic science studies, neuroimaging, brain stimulation, pharmacotherapy, co-occurring psychiatric conditions

-         Training though didactic seminar series, the DART Journal Club, and professional development panels

-         Working with faculty and near peer mentors, with opportunities to later serve as a near peer mentor

-         Professional networking in research and the field of addiction

 

The DART Summer Research Fellowship can be completed remotely, hybrid (combination of remote and in-person) or in-person in Charleston, SC. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2022.

Cleveland Clinic MOST Fellowship

 The Cleveland Clinic’s MOST Fellowship is now Accepting Applications!

The Cleveland Clinic Foundations Clinical Post-baccalaureate program is accepting applications for the 2022-2023 Cohort starting November 1st! In partnership with Stanford, the MOST Fellowship is a 12 month program designed to give students exposure to hospital-based outpatient clinical workflows, documentation and other educational opportunities – acting as a Medical Scribe in clinic with a Physician Mentor.

Students complete at least 24 hours per week of scribing and medical observation with their assigned clinical preceptor in clinic. In their additional time, students work in research, observe other medical specialties, and also attend hands on educational workshops. Mayo Clinic Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship



By immersing themselves in a research lab, the SURF offers students an exciting way to build their skills as young scientists and test their inclinations toward research. They will have the opportunity to be mentored by top-notch scientists, to conduct exciting real-world research, and to form lasting relationships with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and other SURF participants.

The SURF award is $6,000, and the 2022 program is scheduled to run from May 31st through August 5th. Applications for the program must be received by February 1, 2022.

Students can apply to the program if they:

  • Have completed two or three years at a U.S. college or university at the time the SURF program begins
  • Have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale)
  • Are seriously considering a biomedical research career as a Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D.

We are eager to bring together a wide variety of talented, motivated students from all ethnic, geographic, educational and economic groups. Applicants from underrepresented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Complete the following steps to apply:

  1. Create an account to begin the online Application for Admission
    1. Select - Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
    2. Select one of the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) programs available. Make sure your location of preference is available; if not, you can pick a different SURF program (e.g., Neuroscience SURF, Immunology SURF, BMB SURF, etc.)
  1. Complete each section of the application and submit
  2. After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents
    1. Upload each required item in the Supplemental Items section 
    2. Complete the Recommendation Request section 

A complete application includes the completed online application, a personal statement, a transcript (official is preferred but unofficial is accepted), and two letters of recommendation.

Pre-Med Students: Attend a Surgical Conference!

 



Here is an amazing opportunity to spend a weekend in Clearwater, Florida for the 12th annual Women in Surgery Career Symposium- "New Era of Surgery: Adapt, Modify, and Accelerate" on March 4-6th . Attendees will attend workshops, poster sessions and panels that promote personal and professional growth for women in surgery as well as providing a space to discuss contemporary issues and the opportunities for women in the surgical field. The tentative itinerary can be accessed through the link below.
There will be a poster competition where you can submit an abstract to be presented. Any scientific topics related to surgery and/or women are acceptable. Please send submissions to kaitlyn.crespo@adventhealth.com by 5pm on February 11th.
Registration for the event can be completed through the link at the bottom of this email. If you register before February 3rd, you will be eligible for the group room rate at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort.
