UF Habitat Bi-Weekly Update - GBM #3!

Hello everyone, Happy October!
Thank you to anyone who came out and volunteered on the last two builds, as well as anyone who came out to the Sweet Dreams fundraiser and our Lake Wauburg social last week. If you couldn’t make it and are looking to get involved still, don’t worry because we’ve got some good news for you. UF Habitat has a lot of great events coming up for our chapter within the next month, as well as in the near future:

Our next General Body Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 10/3 at 7:20PM in Rinker 240, same time and place as always. There is a Facebook event set up in case you’d like a reminder the day of so you don’t accidentally miss it or show up late. At this meeting we will be discussing some upcoming events which are also detailed in this email, as well as future events which we are seeking volunteers and participants. We will be having yet another ice breaker, so take the opportunity to meet someone new!

Here's a link the Facebook event: 3rd General Body Meeting
  • As a reminder, we no longer post sign-up forms for builds on our Facebook page or group. This means if you want to sign up for a build, you must be present at the meeting and sign up afterwards on the computers. If you miss the meeting and asked to be put on the list afterwards, you will have less priority to be picked.
We will also be having another fundraiser on Wednesday, 10/18 after our 4th General Body Meeting, so you’ll definitely hear about it again between then and now. The restaurant Taste Pho & Noodle House on 34th St. has generously let us hold a Habitat night there, where 20% of proceeds will go to the club. As you can guess, Taste features Asian cuisine, and has meal options for everyone, vegetarian and vegans alike. Personally, the build-your-own Pho bowl and milk tea is my go-to dinner here! Bring your friends, this should be a fun fundraiser that you can get a delicious meal out of. We will have a Facebook event and more details available soon.
For an event farther out in the future, we will be having our 8th annual Haunted Hustle 5k Run and Walk on Saturday, 10/21. And we emphasize the “Walk” part, so feel free to come out even if you’re not a runner! The trail will be a nice experience either way. It will be located at Boulware Springs Nature Park, and start promptly at 4:00pm. Registration for the race is $25 and includes a free T-shirt, but after 10/2 (THIS MONDAY!) prices increase to $30 for registration. This is open to anyone, and many other participants are from the Gainesville community.

We’d love to have you come out to our meeting this week if you can find the time.

If you have any questions, feel free to message the Facebook page or ask an officer at the meeting this week, as well as shooting me an email at the address listed below.
Good luck in your studies this week, we look forward to seeing you again,
 Olivia
