Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Program

My name is Darean Talmadge and I am reaching out to ask you to share an AmeriCorps service year opportunity with your students, caring for infants and children up to age six who are at risk for abuse and neglect in Houston, TX. Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will serve these vulnerable children throughout a 12-month commitment, living in a private, gated community (at no cost) and receiving a living allowance.

Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will work collaboratively with other AmeriCorps Members in the home to ensure that children’s physical, emotional, and mental needs are met. While the commitment to our organization is only one year, the impact AmeriCorps Members have on the children in their care is lifelong. In turn, the children’s strength, resilience, and love will also make a lifelong impact on them.
We are currently accepting applications for the September 2025-August 2026 service year. Thank you in advance for sharing this opportunity with your students. An informational flyer is below, and our application can be found at:  https://forms.office.com/r/YGgiVKP1hX

Additionally, attached are the profiles of the eight AmeriCorps Members who served with us during the 2023-2024 service year. These profiles offer valuable insight into the background and experience of our Members.
For more information, please contact Darean Talmadge 713-529-0639 dtalmadge@casahope.org
We are so grateful for your partnership.

The Premed Scene - Student-Run Nonprofit Organization

My name is Suhas, and I am one of the co-founders of the nonprofit organization The Premed Scene. The Premed Scene is a student-run organization where we provide informative content relevant to today's medical setting and allow for peer interactions, and all of our opportunities are entirely free!

As a team, we strive to expand access to guidance globally to all pre-health students, and have worked with colleges and medical schools across the country to help make this happen. Today, we have over three thousand pre-health students as members.

I wanted to reach out to see to share some of our upcoming opportunities and programs for students that are interested in joining. I have also attached some flyers to this email as well. We are excited to hopefully have some of UF students involved, and continue to provide resources to students.

We also have webinars, a podcast, a blog, and a medical newsletter, in addition to recordings from our previous virtual shadowing sessions. Below are our contact information and ways to connect with us.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or if there is any way that we can help!

Best,
Suhas

Clemson University MCAT Fall 2024 Scholarships

Clemson University is kicking off the another year of our MCAT scholarship call!

Test preparation programs can cost thousands of dollars and provide a decided advantage to those who can afford them. Last cycle we offered 312 full scholarships for MCAT prep programs (list of past winners who agreed to be listed)

This fall, we plan to offer at least 300 additional full scholarships (pending enough applicants). We are especially trying to get scholarships to students from groups underrepresented in health professions, first-generation college students, and all students with any financial need.

Scholarships are available for both On-demand and instructor-guided intensive programs (8- or 14-week) with official AAMC resources and thousands of practice questions.

The average student scores in the 82nd percentile on the MCAT after one of the prep courses.

Current applications are due October 15 and early applicants have an advantage because awards will be made on a rolling basis. Program details and the scholarship application for students can be found at this link. The application is a simple form and should take a student <10 minutes to complete.

Students can also evaluate my free full MCAT Organic Chemistry course to see if they like the format. Anyone can ’enroll’ for free to access this free course and it covers all the organic topics listed on the official MCAT outline.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you for your help!

Cheers,

Rhett Smith
