Wilderness Medicine Speaker Series - Opportunity for Pre-Medical Engagement

My name is Shilpi Ganguly and I am a 2nd year medical student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. I am reaching out because I am in the process of spearheading and hosting a large virtual wilderness and emergency medicine speaker series! I am presenting a speaker every week via zoom from a diverse range of niche fields including space medicine, dive medicine, mountain medicine, surf medicine, toxicology, climate change medicine, tactical medicine, rural medicine and more! I have received feedback from many of my attendees that pre-medical students may find this series extremely helpful and engaging as they begin to forge their paths into medicine themselves. I believe attending the lectures would be a great way for your students to be exposed to what medicine can offer and provide them the unique chance to speak directly with some world-renowned physicians from around the world. The series is formally supported by the Wilderness Medical Society and the University of Miami.

The link for the series is below and the infographic is attached.

If this is something you think would be of use and interest to your students, please feel free to forward on the opportunity via the website/infographic and encourage them to sign up for the mailing list. I recognize that in the time of COVID opportunities for engagement with medicine have been far and few, so I want to extend this opportunity to as many students as possible! A lot of work has gone into creating this series and I would love as many interested parties to have access to it as possible. Finally, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Hope to talk soon,

Roseman University CODM ASDA Pre-Dental Weekend

Dear Pre-dental clubs, advisors, and prospective dental students,

My name is Richelle, and I am the ASDA Pre-dental Chair at Roseman University College of Dental Medicine in South Jordan, Utah. I’m reaching out to inform you of two amazing programs the ASDA chapter at Roseman is offering this year.

The Roseman University ASDA Pre-Dental Committee will be hosting the first-ever Virtual Pre-Dental Day on December 12th and 13th, 2020. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Roseman as well as meet current students and faculty via zoom!  Pre-dental students will get the chance to hear advice about admissions directly from the Dean, participate in virtual workshops, learn about Roseman’s philosophy, and practice answering mock interview questions. Please use the link below to sign up:
https://forms.gle/jqjnKCe1KCdeupQV7

Another program our ASDA chapter is continuing this year is a mentorship program to match pre-dental students with current dental students at Roseman. If any pre-dental students at your institution are interested in getting matched with a current student to ask them questions about the application process, Roseman University, or get advice about anything related to dental school, the link below will take them directly to that application:

https://forms.gle/ye3XC9WqL3PPkifS6

I've also attached two flyers for you to share this incredible opportunity to any pre-dental students who would benefit from it.

Please feel free to reach out to me or RUASDA.predental@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Best wishes,

LENOX HILL HOSPITAL NEUROSURGERY: BRAINTERNS PROGRAM INFORMATION + INTEREST FORM

To whom this may concern, my name is Labrina Johnson and I am a student at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, majoring in Biology / Pre-Medicine. I currently serve as one of the 2020-2021 Lenox Hill Hospital Neurosurgery: BRAINterns (Brain + intern) Ambassadors and I am so excited to propose an amazing pre-health opportunity that would be in the best interest of your Pre-Med or Pre-Health students.

Due to these unprecedented times where most schools, organizations, clinical research, and shadowing opportunities are getting canceled or having to be moved to remote learning, obtaining the required exposure has been tough for those trying to pursue a healthcare career in the future. Thankfully, the popular Netflix docu-series ‘Lenox Hill’ Hospital, has offered their star physicians (specifically neurosurgeons) to host LIVE online-based webinars for students interested in going into the medical field through a program called ‘BRAINterns’ and what is even more exciting about this program is that it is absolutely FREE!!

 🧠 WHAT IS BRAINTERNS?

Over the summer, as a participant in the program myself, I can attest that this is one of my most valuable, unparalleled, and motivating pre-health experiences that I have gained thus far. I have had the pleasure of sitting in several webinars with the Lennox Hill leaders who are passionate about molding this next generation of future health professionals and some of this nation’s most renowned physicians like Dr. Langer, who currently serves as the Chair in the Lenox Hill Hospital’s Neurosurgery Department, and, Dr. Boockvar who currently serves as the Vice Chair in the Neurosurgery Department and is the Director of the Brain Tumor and Pituitary/Neuroendocrine Center at Lenox Hill Hospital, as well as, many other exceptional doctors, PAs, NPs, nurses, staff, and even current medical students.

Although, this program is more geared towards individuals who may be considering a career in medicine, specifically those interested in neurology, it is still beneficial for many other interests in healthcare. Each event will allow students the opportunity to attend educational seminars conducted by real, certified health professionals and medical students. There will be webinars that will cover the intricacies of what it takes to be a competitive applicant inside and out. There will also be seminars highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion in medicine and lastly, students will gain top-tier virtual exposure to real medical cases, observe, and have to the chance to ask questions during real OR surgeries, learn about clinical research, gain professional medical shadowing in an array of specialties such as neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, network and much more.

As ambassador, I am looking for ways to reach out to current high schoolers, undergrads as well as, upcoming, matriculating medical students and my first thought was YOU and your studentsI am asking if you would please be willing to forward this idea/email with your pre-med or pre-health students as I want to give other students the same opportunities that BRAINterns gave to me

One of the best things about this program is that there are no obligations--just benefits!! I truly ask that you consider this program for your students as one of thier pre-health experiences.

ARE YOU READY TO BECOME A BRAINtern?

(Prospective students who are interested in gaining more general information about our program, getting registration links for our upcoming events, getting our social medias platforms, and joining our private groups, please sign up with the inserted google form link below and please do not hesitate to share this amazing opportunity with your peers, friends, and family! )

Health Education and Literacy Organization at UF

Good afternoon!

Health Education and Literacy Organization (HELO) are hosting a workshop this Thursday at 3 p.m about the importance of health literacy. Health literacy prevents countless Americans from accessing better health simply due to a lack of understanding. This is a very important topic that more pre-professionals need to be aware of and thus we're hosting this workshop to educate and advocate for.  Can this please be sent to the pre-health listserv?

 Thank you so much!!

Namratha

About 90 million Americans are illiterate or read below an 8th level. Much of health information is given out at a 10th-grade level, preventing access to better health for many. Join us this Thursday to learn more about how to bridge this disparity and make an impact on underserved communities!
