Lab Positions Available - Precision Ketogenic Therapy

An opportunity for undergraduate students has opened up in our lab starting this summer. We are looking for students to start as soon as possible.

 Task 1: Facilitate patient care by entering and auditing patient data of children receiving Precision Ketogenic Therapy for epilepsy

This is an opportunity for a student to participate in the custody of patient data that is used for patient care. Our lab provides Precision Ketogenic Therapy, a nutritional therapy, to people with intractable epilepsy (these patients do not respond to medications). Patient data is collected every 3 to 6 months at clinic visits and consists of daily data as well as data obtained at clinic. Additionally, recipes for patients on Precision Ketogenic Therapy need to be created or updated as the patient’s diet prescription changes. The overall goal of this task is to enter and audit clinic data and create and update patient recipes so that data can be used to facilitate patient care. Working knowledge of Microsoft office, particularly excel and word, is needed. There is an opportunity to start a research project as skills and understanding of our research program are developed.

Medical Spanish study abroad (Chile)

Next week is the application deadline for the Spanish & Medicine study abroad program (early July to mid August in Viña del Mar, Chile).
  The 6 week session is specifically for the pre-health student who:

• is a beginner or intermediate Spanish speaker
• will have completed at least one year of studies on a premed/prehealth track
• is mature enough to spend six weeks in a foreign country
• can work well with people of other cultures (program includes medical shadowing)

The Department of Community Health and Family Medicine

The Department of Community Health and Family Medicine is currently looking for student volunteers to assist in data collection for the upcoming clinical research project called COMPARE. The goal of the COMPARE project is to examine patient and resident perspective in relation to hospital readmission so that this information can be used to reduce readmission rates in the future. Sixth Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium

 We are pleased to announce that the Department of Microbiology & Cell Science will be hosting its Sixth Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Friday April 22nd, 2016 8 AM – 1:30 PM, in the Microbiology & Cell Science building (Bldg. 981 Museum Road). Undergraduate researchers are highly encouraged to submit an abstract of their research for presentation at the symposium. Outstanding abstracts from selected undergraduates will be chosen for oral presentations, and the remaining will be presented in poster format. Abstracts are due no later than April 13th, 2016.

The Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine chapter of the American Student Dental Association has organized its 8th Annual Pre-Dental Clinical Simulation Course, designed for anyone considering or in the process of applying to dental school. The course is a two-day long event that offers hands-on experience and a glimpse of what dental school is like at MWU. Some of the topics of discussion and workshops may include: impressions, implants, E4D technology, radiology, class I amalgam preps, and dental tooth anatomy waxing. Each day will run from about 7:30am until 4:30pm. Attendees will have the choice of two weekends to attend: June 24-25, or July 8-9, 2016.
